The Centre for Environmental Engineering in Opole is part of the Kraków-based Łukasiewicz Institute for Ceramics and Building Materials, and modernising the laboratory constitutes the following stage in a series of investments carried out by the institute.
As the only accredited laboratory in Europe, the Centre performs tests for the calculation of biogenic CO₂ using the radiocarbon method. This method is also used here to test liquid fuels for the proportion of biocomponents and plastics in terms of the proportion of renewable components.
The opening ceremony of the modernised Centre was attended by, among others, Prof. Maria Mrówczyńska, Deputy Minister of Science, Prof. Jacek Lipok, Rector of the University of Opole, and Hubert Cichocki, President of Łukasiewicz, as well as Robert Węgrzyn, Member of the Management Board of the Opole Voivodeship, and Paweł Pichniarczyk, Director of Łukasiewicz – ICiMB.
For many years, the centre has been involved in environmental protection and circular economy activities and it also worked with the cement industry. For this industry, it carries out numerous research works, upgrades, and commercial services concerning process engineering (rationalisation of raw material and fuel management, heat recovery, energy balances, and RES) as well as environmental monitoring (testing of waste gas emissions and reducing the environmental impact of industrial installations).
A cooperation agreement between Łukasiewicz and the University of Opole was also signed during the inauguration.
Otwarcie laboratorium to kolejny krok ku intensyfikacji współpracy między nauką a przemysłem, której celem jest rozwój zrównoważonych technologii.
