Polish Aviation Group S.A. and the Łukasiewicz Research Network have signed an agreement on a strategic partnership for the development of the aviation sector. All 22 institutes of the Network will be involved in the cooperation, enabling an interdisciplinary approach to the business challenges facing the industry.
Łukasiewicz intends to respond, among other things, to the Group’s needs in the area of aircraft ground handling and technical maintenance. In the course of discussions, PGL has already expressed interest in autonomous vehicles designed for logistics, as well as in cybersecurity technologies based on artificial intelligence.
“The aviation industry is facing a number of complex challenges today: from technological transformation and strict environmental requirements to the need to build modern workforce competences. The key to success is closer cooperation between business and the world of science,” says Radosław Stępień, President of Polish Aviation Group. “The research potential and expert knowledge of the Łukasiewicz Research Network offer a real response to the needs of our sector.”
“The agreement we have signed is a milestone in building an integrated base that will genuinely support the development and competitiveness of Polish aviation,” adds the President of PGL.
The institutes of the Łukasiewicz Research Network will provide PGL with access to personnel specialised in areas such as infrastructure, operational and technical technologies, digitalisation, process automation and autonomisation, advanced materials and diagnostics, as well as circular economy solutions.
The recipients of the technologies will include, among others, Poland’s national carrier LOT Polish Airlines S.A.; companies operating in aircraft maintenance, including LOTAMS Sp. z o.o. and LS Technics Sp. z o.o.; aircraft ground handling and cargo services, including LS Airport Services S.A.; and aviation training, including Polska Akademia Lotnicza Sp. z o.o.
“For the past two years, the Łukasiewicz Research Network has focused on cooperation with the most innovative enterprises in Poland, whose scale requires a technological component for further growth. We make sure that strategic partnerships translate into implementations, so I expect today’s agreement to deliver quick results,” comments Dr Hubert Cichocki, President of the Łukasiewicz Center.
“Cooperation with Polish Aviation Group will allow us to use our potential in the areas of digital technologies, materials technologies and modern power supply systems. I hope that the research results will contribute to increasing the competitiveness of PGL companies and, consequently, strengthen Poland’s position on the international aviation market,” adds the President of Łukasiewicz.
