The development of artificial intelligence in various industries will constitute the task of the emerging Competence Centre. This is a joint initiative of the Łukasiewicz Research Network and IBM Poland. A letter of intent regarding the planned cooperation was signed today (7 January 2025) by dr Hubert Cichocki, president of the Łukasiewicz Centre, and Marcin Gajdziński, general manager of IBM Poland, Ukraine and the Baltics, and Piotr Beńke, CTO of IBM Poland.
The agreement between the two institutions on the development of artificial intelligence stems from an awareness of the challenges facing the Polish and global economies. The noticeable growth of advanced technologies in this area requires an increase in competence in machine learning and artificial intelligence. That is why Łukasiewicz and IBM Poland are planning joint projects that will develop artificial intelligence, which is going to help strengthen the competitiveness of the Polish business sector.
As the Łukasiewicz Research Network, we have significant competences and research achievements that can be used to implement projects in the areas of national security or energy transition. These are also important state issues that, as a research and implementation organisation, we support. Collaborating with IBM, a giant in the IT and technology market, will allow us to generate additional value in our areas of expertise through the support of artificial intelligence.
dr Hubert Cichocki, prezes Centrum Łukasiewicz
The Competence Centre is intended to shape skills in the field of artificial intelligence, particularly in generative AI. It also aims to develop applied computer science and machine learning information technologies, create predictive and diagnostic mechanisms for use in various industries, and develop the Data Science and Internet of Things (IoT) sector.
