Jarosław Bosy
Acting Director
Since December 2015, he held the position of full professor at the Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics at the Wrocław University of Life Sciences. From 2016 to 2020 he served as Deputy Rector for Science and International Cooperation and was the Rector of the University of Life Sciences in Wrocław from 1 September 2020 to 31 August 2024.
He specialises in research concerning the precise processing of GNSS satellite data, which are used to monitor the Earth and atmosphere as part of the Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS). He has held numerous research internships, including in Greece, Switzerland, and Italy. He has authored or co-authored more than 90 scientific publications. His bibliometric data includes an h-index of 16 and more than 990 citations in the Scopus database and an h-index of 24 and more than 2,000 citations in Google Scholar. During his scientific career, he has managed numerous research projects funded by the KBN, MNiSW, NCN, NCBiR, and H2020. He has participated in international initiatives such as COST actions and European Space Agency (ESA) grants. In 2010, he received the Badge of Honour “For Merit to Geodesy and Cartography” for implementing the “Multifunctional Precision Satellite Positioning System ASG-EUPOS” project.
He is also an expert evaluator of national research projects in National Science Centre panels and international H2020 for the European Research Council and the European GNSS Agency. He has repeatedly reviewed projects for the Austrian (FWF) and German (DFG) grant agencies.
Education
He graduated from the Wrocław Agricultural University (currently the Wrocław University of Life Sciences) in 1988. In 1996, he obtained his doctorate in technical sciences at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, where he also defended his habilitation thesis in 2006. In 2014, he was awarded the title of professor by the President of Poland.
Passion
His great passion is satellite geodesy, both in his professional and private life (thousands of kilometres per year cycled with GNSS navigation). He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Geodesy, the official scientific journal of the International Association of Geodesy, a member of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG) and the American Geophysical Union (AGU), Chairman of the Committee on Geodesy of the Polish Academy of Sciences, as well as a member of the State Council of Geodesy and Cartography and a member of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
