During the New Mobility Congress 2025 in Katowice, the Łukasiewicz Research Network and local governments signed a letter of intent to begin work on the New Mobility Center (CNM). It will be a platform supporting the development of innovative transport technologies and the construction of a new mobility ecosystem for the whole of Poland, with particular emphasis on Silesia.

The letter of intent was signed by:

  • Marcin Krupa – Mayor of Katowice,
  • Rafał Żelazny and Ewa Lipka – President and Vice-President of the Management Board of the Katowice Special Economic Zone,
  • Kazimierz Karolczak – Chairman of the Board of the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis,
  • Maciej Mazur – President of the Board of the Polish Association for New Mobility (PSNM),
  • Wojciech Saługa – Marshal of the Silesian Province,
  • Hubert Cichocki – President of the Łukasiewicz Center.

New mobility as a development impulse for Silesia and the whole country

The New Mobility Center is a response to the challenges associated with the region’s energy and industrial transformation. It will integrate industry, science, administration, and the startup environment. The goal is to develop competence, entrepreneurship, and innovation in the space of future mobility.

“The New Mobility Center is our next important initiative, following the creation of the Łukasiewicz-AI Institute in Katowice, which specializes in artificial intelligence research, aimed at supporting post-mining areas. Silesia’s industrial traditions and new technologies related to electromobility can be a lasting foundation for the region’s transformation,” said Hubert Cichocki, President of the Łukasiewicz Center, during the ceremony.

A strong coalition of scientists and local governments for business

The CNM project has gained the support of key regional and national partners. The joint declaration of cooperation includes, among other things, the establishment of a Technology Council, joint educational activities, analysis of technological trends, and support for startups.

“As PSNM, we have been building a new mobility ecosystem in Poland for years. The establishment of the Center is a step towards institutionalizing this ecosystem. We believe that through cooperation with our partners, we will create space for innovations that will change Polish transport,” said Maciej Mazur, President of PSNM.

Next step: Technology Council

One of the first actions will be the establishment of the CNM Technology Council, an expert forum integrating representatives of administration, industry, science, and the startup community. The Council will identify priority technologies, support incubation and acceleration processes, and promote international best practices.
