At least 96 sets of Mobile Unmanned Reconnaissance Vehicles (MBRVs) developed by Łukasiewicz Research Network will be delivered to the Polish Armed Forces. Poland’s Armament Agency selected the offer from Łukasiewicz – Industrial Institute for Automation and Measurements PIAP for the ‘Tarantula’ mobile reconnaissance robot.
Łukasiewicz – PIAP will supply 96 sets of reconnaissance robots, i.e., Mobile Unmanned Reconnaissance Vehicles, for approximately PLN 50 million gross, with the possibility of increasing the order to 130 MBRVs. Additionally, Łukasiewicz – PIAP will provide the Polish Armed Forces with 10 Maintenance and Repair Sets (MRS), as well as organize vehicle testing and operator training. Deliveries are scheduled in batches until the end of 2027.
The MBRVs are expected to perform reconnaissance in direct contact with troops, penetrate areas inaccessible to humans, transmit data from reconnaissance sensors via wireless audio and video transmission to the operator console, and navigate various terrains. The MBRV design also allows for transport in military vehicle compartments and carrying by a single soldier.
“Łukasiewicz – Industrial Institute for Automation and Measurements PIAP, where we are today, is the best example of the ability to develop equipment for the security needs of the Polish state. To everyone who contributed to the fact that the ‘Tarantulas’ will be utilized in the Polish Army—thus enhancing our reconnaissance capabilities and enabling us to operate on a larger scale—I extend my sincere thanks and congratulations on this contract,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
Kosiniak-Kamysz supported the use of funding opportunities to further economic development and ensure security: “I strongly encourage the Łukasiewicz Research Network and all its institutes to actively pursue proposals available from the National Development Bank and the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy.”
