Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski, Minister of Science Marcin Kulasek and Chair of the Sejm Subcommittee on Science Dorota Olko visited the laboratories of \u0141ukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Microelectronics and Photonics in Piaseczno. The Institute specializes in solutions in nanoelectronics, photonics and innovative power supply systems. <\/strong><\/p>

“Semiconductors can be found everywhere today. For example, a modern car contains around one thousand semiconductor components,” Dr. Eng. Piotr Guzdek, Director of \u0141ukasiewicz – IMiF, reminded the guests, noting that the Institute primarily wants to support Polish industry and seek business partners. “At the same time, we want to use the resources of the whole of \u0141ukasiewicz, gathered through the Special Electronics Competence Center, which currently brings together 10 institutes,” he said. <\/p>

Supply Chain for Security<\/strong><\/p>

Dr. Eng. Grzegorz Janczyk, who heads the Silicon Microelectronics Center, in turn emphasized the importance of control over the supply chain for security. He pointed to risks such as a hidden possibility of immobilizing Polish military vehicles that use foreign technologies, which would only become apparent in a moment of crisis. “I am convinced that the work of engineers from our Network will translate into real products that will serve Polish security,” commented Dr. Hubert Cichocki, President of the \u0141ukasiewicz Center. <\/p>

Developing Innovation with the Support of the Polish Government <\/strong><\/p>

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski pointed out that semiconductor policy is of strategic importance to the state. “Microprocessors are the gold of the 21st century. Broken supply chains affect the technological sovereignty of the state, the defence industry and critical infrastructure,” he assessed. “Polish research institutes and companies have the capabilities to respond to this,” he stressed, addressing \u0141ukasiewicz engineers and researchers. He indicated that the development of innovation has the support of Prime Minister Donald Tusk and the entire government, but public funds cannot be the only source of financing for research. <\/p>

“Polish science gives us security, just as the Polish army gives it to us.
